HOMEMADE PRIVATE BRAND EGGNOG
| 4 cups milk |
1 tsp nutmeg |
| 5 whole cloves |
1 ½ cups sugar |
| 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract |
12 egg yolks |
| 2-3 tsp ground cinnamon |
2 ½ cups light rum (optional) |
First combine the milk, whole cloves, ½ the vanilla and cinnamon in a medium size sauce pan and heat on low until milk mixture begins to simmer. Stirring constantly, do not let mixture boil.
Next whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until nice and fluffy.
Slowly whisk ½ the hot milk mixture into the eggs.
Pour milk/egg mixture back into the sauce pan and cook over medium heat, constantly stirring until mixture begins to thicken.
Strain and let cool for about an hour.
Now cream, remaining vanilla, nutmeg and rum (if using) and refrigerate overnight. Ready to enjoy by morning.
